Great tension between Japan and China! Permission granted to shoot
Japan was reportedly alerted after China gave Coast Guard teams the authority to shoot elements violating the country's sovereignty.
An anonymous official from the Japanese Foreign Ministry warned in a report in the Japan Times that China's law could shake the international order.
The Tokyo government is preparing for military mobility that could take place across the disputed Senkaku Islands in the East China Sea, which is the subject of conflict with China, the report said.
The report also said some names in the ruling Liberal Democratic Party of Japan's self-defense forces "must play a bigger role" if China takes military initiatives.
On January 1st, Japan's National Security Council met to discuss regional issues, while Foreign Minister Toshimitsu Motegi said at a press conference, "China should not apply the law in any other way than international law," he warned.
PERMISSION TO SHOOT
Under China's law, Coast Guard teams have been empowered to "take all necessary measures, including the use of weapons in cases where the national sovereignty and jurisdiction of foreign organizations or persons at sea is violated".
The law also empowered the Coast Guard to destroy other countries' structures built on reefs and islands claimed by China and to seize foreign ships that illegally entered China's land waters.
It is stated that the law could increase the risk of conflict in the disputed South China Sea.
